Kinks- Essential- Ray Davies

My dear friend of over 30 years, Patrick Moore, a retired Inspector with the London Metropolitan Police (Scotland Yard) as well as a guitarist and keen music fan, writes,” I  finished the  book on the Kinks by author Nick Hasted (You Really Got Me:the Story of The Kinks). Seems like a pretty thoroughly researched book, with direct interviews with all of the main players. It does confirm my personal and professional experience of Mr. Ray Davies as being cantankerous and willfully contrary (though I still love the Kinks’ music). As a Londoner, I think they produced the best collection of “London songs”. It seems that, despite all of the great songs, they are not thought of as being as important as the Stones, the Who, or even the Small Faces.”

This inspired me to share one of several classic rock conversations I’ve had with Ray Davies about the Kinks, their early years, and their musical legacy. And happiest birthday wishes to Ray ( on Tuesday). –Redbeard KINKS-SANLP11394-Large
