Billy Joel-The Stranger 40th Anniversary 9-18

In September 1977, Billy Joel’s The Stranger  was a game changer, and not simply for the erstwhile “Piano Man” who had made a series of ever-improving albums while building a loyal cult following. The Stranger  changed all that for Billy, for venerable label Columbia Records, and for the music industry at large, surpassing Simon and Garfunkel’s Bridge Over Troubled Water  as the top-selling album in the label’s history. No wonder, since The Stranger contained “Movin’ Out”,”Only the Good Die Young”,”Scenes from an Italian Restaurant“, and Billy Joel’s first #1,”Just the Way You Are“. Billy Joel marks the 40th anniversary of The Stranger  release here In the Studio the week of September 18. –Redbeard
