The Who- Tommy 50th Anniversary pt1- Pete Townshend 5/20

If Tommy  composer Pete Townshend of The Who,  writing for Roger Daltrey to sing in the song “My Generation”  the notorious line, ” I hope I die before I get old…” had any inkling that his wish might not be granted, Townshend may have written the storyline for the career-making world’s first rock opera with a considerably different slant. Take the pivotal song in both the opus and The Who’s history, “Pinball Wizard“: if Townshend knew that we’d be discussing Tommy  here on its golden anniversary, maybe he would have written the line,” That deaf, dumb, and blind kid sure plays a mean back nine…” .
