Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble Rock Hall of Fame pt 1

Far be it for me to attempt to explain how we here in Texas felt about Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble – their world-wide success; his redemption from profound life-threatening drug and alcohol addiction; then his devastating loss at age 35 in a helicopter crash just after midnight August 27, 1990. For that insight I recommend Joe Nick Patoski and Bill Crawford’s definitive biography Stevie Ray Vaughan : Caught in the Crossfire. What we have done is to assemble some of the musicians who knew him best, plus several who actually played with him on that final night, to pay tribute to his spirit and to his musical legacy as Stevie, Double Trouble drummer Chris Layton, & bass player Tommy Shannon are inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Saturday. Included here in part one is my first interview with Stevie in late Spring 1984; legendary bluesman Buddy Guy; Layton, Shannon, and biographer Patoski; and the songs “Pride andJoy”,”Cold Shot”, the spectacular Hendrix cover“Voodoo Child”,”Look at Little Sister”,”Life Without You”, and two “Big”Doyle Bramhall songs, “Change It” and “Life By the Drop”.
