Lynyrd Skynyrd- Street Survivors- the late Gary Rossington

The tale of Lynyrd Skynyrd and "Street Survivors"  seems to have been hatched in the vivid imagination of Tennessee Williams, Harper Lee, or William Faulkner, but the characters are so colorful, the childhood bonds so strong, the struggles so personal, the victories so inspiring, and the heartbreak so deep that there is simply no need for hyperbole in telling it. The dearly beloved late co-founder Gary Rossington was my guest In the Studio.

Cry of Love- Peace Pipe- August 1993

With a band named after a Jimi Hendrix album, and  their debut album Brother thirty years ago sounding like  Free meets Lynyrd Skynyrd, how could I not love this Carolina band? Great guys too in Cry of Love , including the trueheart guitarist…

Black Crowes- Southern Harmony…- Chris Robinson, Rich Robinson

Preparing this interview with Black Crowes co-founders singer Chris Robinson and his younger guitar-playing brother Rich Robinson to mark their second release, "The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion", the deja vu was uncanny and not a little bit unsettling. Constantly I had to remind myself that the trends these Atlanta natives were seeing in the mid-1990s, and the predictions they made then, sound eerily like today's headlines. Peering now into their spyglass in reverse, it is both remarkable in its accuracy but, I must admit, troubling in its sense of creeping inevitability.

Allman Brothers Band- Eat a Peach- the late Gregg Allman, Dickey Betts

The legendary Allman Brothers Band had officially disbanded even prior to the deaths of drummer Butch Trucks and singer/ organist Gregg Allman in 2017, but to this day I still marvel how it all could have possibly continued for almost half a century after what happened so early on at a critical launching point in the band's career during the making of their fourth album, "Eat a Peach. it was Duane Allman who formed and led the Allman Brothers Band, and behind them an entire new Southern Rock movement. But at the end of October 1971 midway through the recording of what would become" Eat a Peach", Duane died riding his beloved motorcycle. Gregg Allman (who died May 2017) and ex-guitarist Dickey Betts reveal how the music sustained the brotherhood.
