None of the superlatives heaped upon The Who‘s Who’s Next  ring hollow in the ensuing fifty years since it’s Summer 1971 release simply because not one of the essential songs have been in any way diminished over time: “Baba O’Reilly”,”Behind Blue Eyes”,”Goin’ Mobile”,” Bargain”,”Won’t Get Fooled Again“. Who’s Next  was the studio followup to Tommy  , a ground-breaking opus which erased the band’s image as “a singles band who wore funny clothes and destroyed their equipment”, as Pete Townshend admitted, and established the London four-piece as one of the world’s significant rock bands. But even Tommy‘s worldwide acclaim failed to point to what The Who should do next. Pete Townshend is my guest here In the Studio  on the golden anniversary of a masterpiece the week of July 26. –Redbeard
