In the last ten years or so three highly improbable goals have been achieved by Queen songwriter/guitarist Brian May. First off, he became Dr. Brian May, PhD in Astrophysics. “It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. Several times I thought, ‘ I just can’t do this. My mind can’t handle it.’ But several supportive friends encouraged me to finish.”

The second dream was to reform Queen with drummer Roger Taylor and tour North America successfully in the 21st century, first realized in Summer 2014 in spectacular fashion with a sold out arena tour featuring Adam Lambert singing the songs made world famous by original Queen singer Freddie Mercury, who passed away in 1991. That dream continues to come true with Queen + Adam Lambert on tour in North America now. -RedbeardL-R: Adam Lambert, Brian May, Roger Taylor

Brian May’s third pioneering effort of which he is justifiably proud is as part of the Advisory Board of the Starmus International Festival, a public gathering of for all things cosmological, including astronomy, physics, astronautics, and space travel for scientists, professionals, policymakers, and amateurs. Click on my interview above where Brian May discusses the first Starmus Festival (which included speakers Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, first to land on the Moon, as well as the first human to walk in space, Alexei Leonov )which he helped to organize in 2011 and again in 2014 in the Canary Island of Tenarife, site of the world’s largest telescope. –Redbeard
