Doors- Back Door Man medley- Pittsburgh 5-2-70

Just before The Doors withdrew from live concert touring to record the now-iconic LA Woman album, the band performed at the Pittsburgh Civic Arena to "get together one more time..." . The Doors opened with a medley of  Willie Dixon's "Back Door Man", "Love Hides", and their own "Five to One".

Styx here live in blues legend Willie Dixon's Chicago recording studio at 2120 Michigan Avenue, the site of the original Chess Records, back in 2005 laying down a soul-infused reading of Tommy Shaw's working class musical manifesto "Blue Collar Man".

Allman Brothers Band- Idlewild South- the late Gregg Allman

...for me in Autumn 1970 with discovering the Allman Brothers Band, as it was their second album, "Idlewild South" , which was my gateway drug to a five decade musical high for what turned out to be, as legendary producer Tom Dowd put it it, "the greatest musical fusion I've ever witnessed."

John Mellencamp- Seventh Son- Chess Studio, Chicago 5-’89

John Mellencamp and his wonderfully talented band left his garage in Central Indiana back in early May 1989 and headed north by northwest to  legendary Chicago Chess Studio and cut this live version of the Willie Dixon song made famous by Johnny…
