I was a Runaways fan from the mid-’70s, so I was fully onboard with Joan Jett’s first solo album Bad Reputation when it was released originally as a DIY indie record in 1980 and again on a major label in January 1981. After being blackballed by the record industry after the Runaways split up, and then simply ignored when true believer manager Kenny Laguna self-financed Bad Reputation, fast forward a year to New Years Eve 1981-82 and headlining at The Ritz with her new band, The Blackhearts, a new album I Love Rock’n’Roll, and a live broadcast on New York City rock bastion WNEW-FM. –Redbeard
