Heart- Dreamboat Annie @50- Ann Wilson, Nancy Wilson 2-14
Fifty Februaries ago, a real-life Cinderella story was unfolding with the release of the independent album Dreamboat Annie by Seattle refugees to Canada, Heart. Released on Valentine Day 1976 on tiny Canadian label Mushroom Records, Dreamboat Annie featured a melodic hard rock band built around two sisters, big-voiced singer Ann Wilson and her younger guitar-playing sibling Nancy. As a DIY indie recording, songs including “Magic Man”, “Crazy on You”, “White Lightning and Wine”, and the recurring musical theme “Dreamboat Annie” all punched way above their weight class. Literally selling their debut album at club gigs out of their car trunk, Heart doggedly turned their collective dream into a reality, then a phenomenon. But why were these Seattle sisters, and their American boyfriends in the band, toiling in the clubs of Vancouver British Columbia north of the US-Canadian border in 1976?
