To this day whenever I hear or see Steve Miller Band's iconic "Fly Like an Eagle" , it is impossible to forget the experience which allowed us, after merely a dozen weekly shows, to declare, "The 'Eagle' has landed In the Studio !"

As Double Trouble drummer Chris Layton told me of first experiencing Stevie Ray Vaughan’s extraordinary guitar talent from outside an Austin nightclub , I had to smile . Like Chris , I had not actually seen the young blues guitarist the first time I heard him play live , but the memory is burned into my mind . It was February 4 , 1984 as I was anchoring the live network broadcast interviews of the myriad of performers at the annual Charlie Daniels Volunteer Jam backstage at Nashville’s War Memorial Auditorium . Over ten years the Volunteer Jam had grown into an annual pilgrimage by the biggest names then in American rock music , featuring in one night the Charlie Daniels Band , the Marshall Tucker Band , Lynyrd Skynyrd , the Allman Brothers Band, Molly Hatchet , the Outlaws , plus Billy Joel ,Emmylou Harris , and Ted Nugent !

Been spending more and more on concert tickets but enjoying it less? This may be the best value of the entire Summer classic rock concert season, as two ageless guitar monsters team up for great songs performed by great bands: Peter Frampton…

During our interview,Steve Miller reminded me that ,when Fly Like an Eagle came out 40 years ago,it contained such a wealth of great songs of varying styles, thoughtfully sequenced seamlessly, that I and my FM radio deejay brethren used to play entire sides of it(back when albums had sides) on the radio,uninterrupted...(more)

Sales of Steve Miller Band's "Fly Like an Eagle", which includes "Rock 'n Me","Take the Money and Run","Wild Mountain Honey","Serenade","Mercury Blues", and the title song have exceeded five million copies of Rolling Stone magazine's Album of the Year 1976, plus a berth on that mag's 500 Greatest Albums All Time list.

Much to my delight, Dallas-via-San Francisco rhythm and bluesman Boz Scaggs has been quite prolific in the 21st century, with the new A Fool to Care just arriving. One look at the superb Dukes of September concert DVD confirms my impression…

I had said in the liner notes where I was talking about one of the songs and I just said ,' it reminds me of ya know Brave New World and Sailor when I was working on my guitar parts '. And what I did then and what I did on this record. So, it is similar, I think and it’s been a very fun project to get excited about playing lead guitar on a record...(To read the entire 1-hour interview, click the link below)
