Queen- The Game 45th Anniversary- Brian May, Roger Taylor 6-30
If someone who knew nothing about Pop Music of the last half of the Twentieth Century asked me to define the term “earworm”, by example I’d point to “Another One Bites the Dust” from Queen’s June 1980 album The Game. Love it or loathe it, John Deacon’s infectious bass riff turned out to be the musical equivalent of the measles, spreading the sound of The Game to #1 sales worldwide forty-five years ago. However, when you really got into the album, it turned out that there were several more regal rockers in Queen’s The Game.
My guests In the Studio include guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor, opening the playbook behind Freddie Mercury’s neo-rockabilly “Crazy Little Thing Called Love”, the brutal switchblade guitar of May’s “Dragon Attack”, “Play the Game”, “Need Your Loving Tonight”, and the crowning achievement “Another One Bites the Dust”. Brian May and Roger Taylor suit up for Queen’s The Game forty-fifth anniversary here June 30. –Redbeard
