To get you primed for the upcoming Beatles “White Album” double-nickel anniversary interviews with the late George Harrison plus Paul McCartney, here is a live performance of “Blackbird” by Macca from 1991.

Chris Whitley- Poison Girl- Dallas 7-91

...the dearly departed Chris Whitley in July 1991 outdoors in Dallas Texas under a tent on the lawn with no stage, no monitors, tiny PA,  accompanied only by several ancient Depression-era guitars and dobro with warped necks going in and out of tune, sharing “Poison Girl” from his debut album Living With the Law.

David Lee Roth- Best Of

The incomparable David Lee Roth "Best Of" including the platinum solo album, "Skyscraper" here In the Studio.

Sting- The Dream of the Blue Turtles

The Sting and I...We had already done multiple interviews when he was in The Police and now Sting had released three solo albums, including Fall 1987's "Nothing Like the Sun", by the time we reconvened in 1991. Genesis- We Can’t Dance- Mike Rutherford, Tony Banks, Phil Collins

On the eve of their first North American concert tour in decades, Genesis triumvirate Mike Rutherford, Tony Banks, and Phil Collins  reconvened here In the Studio to reprise the world premiere broadcast which I hosted and produced with them in November 1991 for "We Can't Dance" .

John Mellencamp- Whenever We Wanted

By the time John Mellencamp released October 1991's "Whenever We Wanted" , containing the hits "Get a Leg Up" and "Again Tonight", his record-making not only made him one of the Eighties' most popular singer/ songwriters, he had already influenced the sound of his peers...twice. John Mellencamp is my guest In the Studio.

John Mellencamp- Get a Leg Up- garage 12-91

Before arenas and stadiums, even the most popular bands in history started in someone's garage, carport, or basement. Some of today's biggest Hall of Famers, such as John Mellencamp and his excellent band, still rehearse there, as I found out one snowy Christmas season in 1991. "Get a Leg Up" comes straight off the garage floor, no overdubs.

Bryan Adams- Hey Honey I’m Packin’ You In- Vancouver 3-92

This is Bryan Adams and band live straight off the floor on "Hey Honey, I'm Packin' You In", no overdubs, during the In the Studio live North American broadcast from Vancouver's Little Mountain Studio in March 1992.

Bob Seger- The Fire Inside

August 26, 1991 I had the great honor and pleasure of co-hosting the world premiere radio broadcast  with Bob Seger of "The Fire Inside". His fourteenth (!) studio album, it came a long five years after Seger and the Silver Bullet Band's "Like a Rock", the Detroit rocker's fifth multi-million seller in a row.

Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers-Mary Jane’s Last Dance- San Francisco 2-97

Here is a rare recorded concert performance of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers doing the one-off "Mary Jane's Last Dance" which did not quite make the 1991 album Into the Great Wide Open  and instead was a surprise hit on their Greatest Hits…
