Rock Hall Righteous Recognition: Joe Cocker!!!

Certainly the late Joe Cocker was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame years ago, right? Joe Cocker who sang definitive versions of "Feelin' Alright","With a Little Help from My Friends","The Letter","Cry Me a River","Unchain My Heart","You Can Leave Your Hat On","Up Where We Belong","She Came in Through the Bathroom Window","Delta Lady","When the Night Comes", and "You Are So Beautiful" must have been a first ballot lock for Rock Hall induction, right? Loverboy 45th Anniversary- Mike Reno, Paul Dean

Canadian rockers Loverboy were the right band at the right time forty-five years ago. North American rock radio was waiting in anticipation for “Turn Me Loose”, “The Kid is Hot Tonight”, Working for the Weekend", along with "When It's Over", "Jump" co-written by fellow countryman Bryan Adams, "Gangs in the Street", and "Take Me to the Top". Joe Cocker- Mad Dogs, Englishmen, & Rock Hall of Fame- with Leon Russell

...So when it took 36 years after Cocker's iconic coming-out party at the Woodstock Festival for me to get access, understandably I was anxious as to what I would get. As you'll hear, Joe Cocker was a lovable gentle soul who was a great conversationalist , sometimes endearing , often hysterically funny. And the addition of guest Mad Dogs & Englishmen musical director Leon Russell answered a lot of questions about both of their subsequent careers after this tour, double live album , and feature film. The Cult- Love 40th Anniversary- Billy Duffy

It was the mid-Eighties, and rolling the streets of Dallas/Ft.Worth at night felt less like a big-block muscle car and just right in a fire-engine red BMW M3, moonroof open, with The Cult "Love" cassette jammed in the dash player blasting "She Sells Sanctuary"and "Rain". The Cult guitarist/songwriter Billy Duffy is my guest In the Studio.

In 1980 for their third album "Making Movies", Mark Knopfler and Dire Straits' easily least melancholy, most upbeat batch of songs, Mark Knopfler joins me here In the Studio on "Making Movies" 45th anniversary  for the tales behind "Expresso Love","Skateaway" "Solid Rock", the epic "Tunnel of Love", and  "Romeo and Juliet".

Rush- Power Windows 40th- Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson

When observing potential song subjects for October 1985's "Power Windows",  Rush lyricist/ drummer the late Neil Peart saw an uncanny number of socio-political issues which have become front page headlines again forty years later.

there was high drama and great music before with the third-time's-the-charm "Lady", then 1975's strong Equinox  album containing "Light Up", "Lorelei", and the timeless "Suite: Madame Blue". Band leaders even today James "JY" Young and Tommy Shaw look back on the Equinox  along with the original former co-founding member who wrote and sang all of those songs, Dennis DeYoung

Foghat- Fool for the City- late Lonesome Dave Peverett & Rod Price

British blues-rock foursome Foghat's "Fool for the City" album, with the title song plus "Slow Ride", dominated American FM airplay from its release in September 1975 all through the following year (#20 Billboard). Foghat were four British electric bluesmen who comprised the most successful  limb of the sprawling Savoy Brown musical family tree, albeit that success almost exclusively in North America. This is a bittersweet edition of In the Studio as both of my guests in this classic rock interview, Foghat co-founding guitarist/singer/songwriter Lonesome Dave Peverett and slide guitarist/songwriter Rod Price, have since passed away.
