Sammy Hagar- I Never Said Goodbye 35th Anniversary

After years of struggle as the undercard rock palooka who could take a punch and never go down, in 1984 Sammy Hagar answered the bell  and came out swinging, scoring a technical knockout with his mainstream hit "I Can't Drive 55" from his eighth solo album "VOA". Then in 1987 Sammy won by a knockout with his solo album "I Never Said Goodbye", at #14 his highest charting album ever, and that while being newly installed as Van Halen's lead singer. Sammy Hagar is my guest In the Studio.

For the thirtieth anniversary of Van Halen " For Unlawful Carnal  Knowledge" , we present an ultra-rare "fly on the wall" listen to the biggest hard rock band in America in 1991. The late Eddie Van Halen, brother Alex, Michael Anthony, and Sammy Hagar had the #1-selling album on the Billboard  chart containing "Poundcake","Judgment Day, "Runaround", "Right Now", and "Top of the World" when we had this lively conversation. This complete interview with all four members has never been heard, & it is now quite historic with the leaving of Sammy Hagar about five years later, & the passing of Eddie Van Halen in 2020.

Eddie Van Halen has passed away from cancer, only 65. Cancer kills and smoking causes it.

Van Halen- Women and Children First 40th- Eddie & Alex Van Halen, David Lee Roth

It always seemed that the Van Halen 1980 third album, "Women and Children First" , suffered from "middle child syndrome". David Lee Roth, bass player/ harmony singer Michael Anthony, drummer Alex Van Halen, and fretmeister Eddie Van Halen remind us of a time four decades ago when Van Halen was establishing itself as America's premiere hard rock band with songs "And the Cradle Will Rock" and "Everybody Wants Some!".

Van Halen- OU812- Alex & Eddie, Sammy Hagar, Michael Anthony

"OU812"  by Van Halen topped the US sales chart in Summer 1988, captured like a Polaroid snapshot in this time capsule of an interview featuring Eddie Van Halen, Alex Van Halen, Michael Anthony, and Sammy Hagar.  A lot of tequila has run under the bridge since then, but even thirty year old mescal can't alter the fact that these guys were having too much fun then,  fans were selling out football stadiums coast to coast and gobbling up more than 4,000,000 copies of "OU812"...
