Christmas with Pretenders’ Chrissie Hynde

One of my favorite Christmas songs was composed and included on the legendary Learning to Crawl  album by the Pretenders, but it was a limited bonus track which appeared only on the initial vinyl pressings. Here is Chrissie Hynde discussing…

Queen- Now I’m Here- London Hammersmith Odeon 12-75

Long ago Queen set a very high standard for concert performance from which they have never wavered. Here is  proof of it with "Now I'm Here", originally off of Queen's third studio album Sheer Heart Attack   released forty-five years ago,…

Bush- Glycerine- with Gwen Stefani 12/12

Here is one of those double-take anniversaries where you'd swear it was only half that long ago: English band Bush released their impressive debut Sixteen Stone   twenty-five years ago the first week of December 1994 ( #4 sales on Billboard…

Bryan Adams- I Fought the Law- Belgium 1988

Bryan Adams has always been a terrific live performer. Case in point: when I visited Bryan  at his Vancouver home way back in September 1988 to discuss his career breakthrough Cuts Like a Knife  in 1983 and his star-making blockbuster Reckless…

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers- Rainy Day Women #12 & #35- Gainesville 11-4-93

Maybe I chose this terrific version of Bob Dylan's "Rainy Day Women #12 and #35", performed by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers at a homecoming Gainesville FL concert in November 1993, because the calendar says 4-20.  But then again, with Tom…

The Police- Walking on the Moon- Boston 1979

Here is a rare early performance by The Police of "Walking on the Moon" in a Boston club 1979 just after the release of their second album, Regatta de Blanc . -Redbeard

Eric Clapton- Tell the Truth- Crossroads Guitar Fest Chicago 2007

Eric Clapton's Crossroads Guitar Festival came full circle in 2019 back to Dallas Texas where the first one was held ( Cotton Bowl 2004 ). Here's a flashback to Eric Clapton and southpaw slide guitarist Doyle Bramhall II at the 2007  Chicago GuitarFest, combining like EC did with the late Duane Allman as Derek and the Dominos, on "Tell the Truth".

Lindsey Buckingham- Never Going Back Again- Dallas ’92

An In the Studio exclusive, Lindsey Buckingham performing "Never Going Back Again" !

Cheap Trick- Need Your Love- Passaic NJ 12/78

Cheap Trick actually delayed  Dream Police, their studio follow-up to the brilliant 1978 third album Heaven Tonight, not because of a lack of strong songs  written, but because their fluke live-in-Japan-only release At Budokan  virtually…

Bruce Springsteen & E Street Band- Factory- Cleveland 8-78

With the release of the album Darkness on the Edge of Town in 1978, Bruce Springsteen went from the Cinemascope sweep of Born to Run three years earlier to the Rock Generation's defacto Secretary of Labor.

Rolling Stones- Mixed Emotions- Toronto 9-3-89

When interviewing Keith Richards in early January 1989 ostensibly about his solo album Talk is Cheap,  I was repeatedly reminded by his delightful publicist Jane Rose not to ask about the 900 pound gorilla in the studio: the Rolling Stones,…

Neil Young and Crazy Horse- Down By the River- San Francisco 1986

Neil Young and Crazy Horse live "Down By the River"

John Fogerty- Green River- Burbank 5-97

John Fogerty was rehearsing his band in Burbank CA in front of a small studio audience when the band dug into the title song from that Creedence Clearwater Revival "Green River" album.

Crowded House- Don’t Dream It’s Over/All I Have to Do is Dream- 2010

"Hey now, hey now...". What a great band. Formed from the stray strands of New Zealand's Split Enz, Crowded House had up to four lead singers and the brilliant songs of Neil Finn. Not even the almost criminally inept career direction of their…

Toad the Wet Sprocket- Fall Down- Dallas 5-19-94

Love these guys live, and as you can hear, Toad the Wet Sprocket can pull off their tight melodic sound straight off the floor without any tricks, as here with "Fall Down" from May 1994.
